Did you know your Cricut can draw out your own custom coloring pages? Well, it can! In today\u2019s tutorial I\u2019m going to show you how to make your own coloring page on Cricut. It\u2019s a really simple method that can turn any SVG file into a coloring page that you can use for tons of different crafts. I used mine to make adorable little Valentine\u2019s Day cards for my niece\u2019s Daycare class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like so many of my other tutorials, you\u2019ll need Inkscape for this to work.\u00a0 Inkscape is a totally free download, you can grab it here<\/a>.\u00a0 I absolutely LOVE my Cricut and the possibilities of what all I can make with it are endless. However, I do find that most of what I want to do can\u2019t be done in Design Space. But no worries because Inkscape is free and you have me to walk you through it\u2026so let\u2019s get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1: Pull in your SVG file<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once you\u2019ve downloaded Inkscape and opened it on your computer you\u2019ll want to pull in the SVG file that you want to make your own coloring page with. This can be any SVG file AT ALL! But it does have to be SVG.\u00a0 JPG and PNG will not work for this project.\u00a0 Just go to \u201cFile\u201d and \u201cImport\u201d, select the file you want and click \u201cOpen\u201d. Once you have the SVG in Inkscape you\u2019ll want to lock your screen (see pic below). This just makes sure nothing gets scaled all weird.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2: Delete unwanted parts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once your SVG is in Inkscape you\u2019ll need to delete any parts\nof the file you don\u2019t want.\u00a0 In the video\nmy SVG has writing at the bottom that I didn\u2019t want to keep.\u00a0 If there\u2019s nothing you want to erase on your\nfile then you can skip this step.\u00a0 To\ndelete the unwanted parts simply ungroup the image.\u00a0 Select your SVG file and then go to \u201cObject\u201d\nand \u201cUngroup\u201d (you may have to do this twice).\u00a0\nThe image should now be ungrouped and you can easily delete any parts\nyou don\u2019t want. Once you\u2019re done you need to group everything back\ntogether.\u00a0 Drag a square around your\nentire image and the go to \u201cObject\u201d and \u201cGroup\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 3: Time to make your own coloring page<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With your image all grouped back together it\u2019s time to take out the colored parts to make your own coloring page.\u00a0 With your image selected head up to the top menu bar and click the \u201cFill and stroke\u201d menu (see pic below).\u00a0 When your fill and stroke menu comes up you want to click the \u201cStroke Paint\u201d tap and then click the first solid box.\u00a0 This will turn the on the stroke of your image.\u00a0 Design Space reads the stroke lines as cut lines.\u00a0 If your stroke line is super thick you\u2019ll want to make is smaller.\u00a0 You need it to be no more than .5mm.\u00a0 If you need to alter your stroke size just click the \u201cStroke Style\u201d tab and reduce the size of the stroke (see pic below).\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 4: Delete the existing colors<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Okay, so your stroke is on, this is your outline for the\ncoloring page.\u00a0 Now you just need to get\nrid of all the colors.\u00a0 While you\u2019re\nstill in your \u201cFill and Stroke\u201d menu click on the \u201cFill\u201d tab and then click the\nX at the beginning of the row of boxes.\u00a0\nThis will delete all the colors from your SVG file. \u00a0Once the colors are gone if your image looks\nlike a coloring page, then you\u2019re good to go. \u00a0You can skip down to step 6 for how to save\nand import it to Design Space.\u00a0 If it\ndoesn\u2019t look quite right yet, keep reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 5: Deleting overlapping lines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If your SVG file had overlapping lines you\u2019ll want to delete them.\u00a0 This process will be a bit tedious but you\u2019re basically repeating the same steps over and over again so it\u2019s not difficult at all.\u00a0 Each SVG file will be completely different so it\u2019s hard to say where you\u2019ll want to start (watch the video) but usually you\u2019ll want to start with the main body of your character. You\u2019ll first need to go back and ungroup your whole image.\u00a0 You can ungroup from the menu bar like before or you can use the shortcut keys \u201cCtrl+shift+G\u201d. Ungroup as many times as needed to get your entire image ungrouped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
