A DIY Glass Block light is really easy to make. You can use them for nursery d\u00e9cor, holiday d\u00e9cor, wedding gifts, housewarming gifts\u2026the list goes on and on. I\u2019ve put together this little post to show you how to make your own DIY glass block light. And, there a video just for an added bonus.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s get started making your DIY Glass Block.<\/h2>\n

Here is a list of items you\u2019ll need.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Glass Block (either 6\u201d or 8\u201d it doesn\u2019t matter)<\/li>\n
  2. Glass Block Stand<\/li>\n
  3. Single Christmas Light<\/li>\n
  4. Frosted Glass Spray Paint<\/li>\n
  5. Vinyl decal of your choice<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    I got all of my supplies at Hobby Lobby for roughly $20. You may want to check around at different stores. I know Wal-Mart will have the frosted glass spray paint cheaper than a craft store will. You can purchase the vinyl decal from any craft store or make your own using a Cricut or other cutting machine. There\u2019s also tons of Etsy shops (mine included www.etsy.com\/shop\/crystalscrafties<\/a>) that sell vinyl decals you can use. I\u2019m sure there are other places to purchase a vinyl decal as well. Look around and see what you can find.<\/p>\n

    Step One:<\/h2>\n

    First you\u2019ll want to apply the vinyl decal to your glass block. See my blog post here<\/a> on how to apply a vinyl decal for instructions on how to do this. The decals you can purchase in my shop are made to fit the 6\u201d glass blocks but they will fit the 8\u201d as well. They just won\u2019t fill the space as much. Make sure you apply the decal with the opening of the glass block being at the bottom.<\/p>\n

    Step Two:<\/h2>\n

    Spray paint the glass block with the frosted glass spray paint. You\u2019ll need to go outside to do this. I usually slip my hand into hole at the bottom of the glass block so that all of the exterior surfaces are exposed and I\u2019m not leaving finger prints in the spray paint.\u00a0 You\u2019ll want to hold the can about a foot away from the block and get a good solid coverage. Don\u2019t over-spray. When the spray paint is wet you won\u2019t be able to see the frosted glass effect. Once it dries completely (24 hours or overnight) you\u2019ll be able to see the frosted glass effect.<\/p>\n

    Step Three:<\/h2>\n

    Once the block is fully dry (24 hours or overnight), attach the plastic cover to the bottom of the glass block. When you purchase the glass block it will come with a plastic cover and a rubber ring. For this project you will not need the rubber ring. Just fit the plastic cover into the bottom of the glass block. It should just clip right in with no issues.<\/p>\n

    Step Four:<\/h2>\n

    Attach the Christmas light. The Christmas light attaches to the glass block stand. There is a hole in the stand. Slip the light through the hole from the bottom. The light has metal spring clips to hold it in place. Once the light is attached, slide the glass block down into the stand and you\u2019re all done! Easy huh?<\/p>\n

    From here you can finish off the decoration any way you want. Attach a bow to the top, fill the inside of the block with decomesh, fake snow, spider webs. Let your imagination run and see what all you can come up with. Just make sure that whatever you put in the block isn\u2019t too heat sensitive. The Christmas light will put off a little heat and you don\u2019t want to start a fire!<\/p>\n
