Nothing makes a cake pop more than a 3D cake topper.\u00a0 They are pretty simple to assemble but how do you actually design them to be 3D? Well, in this tutorial I\u2019ll show you how to use Inkscape to design a 3D cake topper that you can cut with your Cricut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First you\u2019ll need to download Inkscape<\/a>.\u00a0 It\u2019s a free and safe download. Inkscape is pretty vast but don\u2019t get overwhelmed.\u00a0 We\u2019re only going to use a small portion of it for today\u2019s tutorial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chose Your Theme<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you have your theme all picked out and you\u2019ve already downloaded a few SVG files (like an ice cream cone, unicorn, dinosaur, whatever your theme is) go ahead and import them into Inkscape now.\u00a0 Head up to the top menu bar and click \u201cFile\u201d and then \u201cImport\u201d and select your files.\u00a0 You don\u2019t have to have any extra embellishments for this to work so if you don\u2019t have a theme or any files to import you can skip this part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Create Your Design<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Next type in the name and the age of the person you\u2019re making the 3D cake topper for.\u00a0 You can use FontCloud<\/a> to choose the prefect font and get the extra flourishes (the video below goes over this in more detail).\u00a0 Once everything is in Inkscape its time to arrange all the parts and get your design looking just the way you want it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
