How to Convert an Image to SVG

Have you ever wanted to convert an image to SVG and not lose any of the layers? It can be frustrating trying to do that in Design Space but I found the answer to your problem.  It’s a little website called pngtosvg.com.

Convert an image to SVG

This website will let you convert an image to SVG and keep all the layers.  It works with both JPG and PNG images.  Just follow the instructions below and watch the video to see how to clean up and edit your SVG.

Step 1:

Go to www.pngtosvg.com.  This service is totally free (though once you see how awesome it is and how often you use it you may consider donating to the creator of the website) and you don’t have to download anything to your computer.

Step 2:

Upload your PNG or JPG image and select how many colors (layers) you want your SVG to have.  You can choose each color by clicking the box and then clicking the color you want it to be.  This will make more sense if you watch the video below.

Step 3:

Once you have all the colors you want click “Generate” and then you’re SVG will show up right next to your original image.  When the SVG file is done generating you can click “Download SVG” and save the file to your computer.

Step 4:

Upload the new SVG into Design Space and edit as needed.  Since this is a free and easy way to convert an image to SVG it’s not exactly perfect.  You’ll have some cleaning up to do on your layers but it’s super simple to do.  Just follow along on the video tutorial and you’ll be all set.
