What You’ll Learn in This Tutorial

In this video I walk you through several different ways to create pearl effects using Affinity by Canva. Once you learn the basic technique, you can apply it to almost any type of design element.

Here’s what I cover in the tutorial.

How to Outline Text with Pearls

One of the easiest ways to create a pearl design is by adding a pearl outline around your text.

In the tutorial, I demonstrate how to:

  • Import pearl style elements purchased from Etsy
  • Arrange the pearls around text to create a clean outline
  • Adjust spacing so the pearls follow the shape of the letters
  • Create a polished pearl border that works well for printing

This technique works especially well for bold fonts, script lettering, and trendy preppy text designs.

How to Create Single Line Pearl Text

Another fun technique I show in the tutorial is how to create single line text made entirely from pearls.

Instead of placing pearls around the outside of the letters, this method follows the center line of the text, creating a delicate pearl lettering effect.

This style is perfect for:

  • Minimalist designs
  • Elegant typography
  • Wedding or boutique style graphics
  • Coquette aesthetic designs

How to Create Shapes with Pearl Outlines

Pearls aren’t just for text. You can also use them to create outlined shapes and design elements.

In the tutorial, I show how to outline shapes such as:

  • Hearts
  • Circles
  • Decorative elements
  • Custom shapes

This allows you to incorporate pearl details into almost any type of design.

Why Pearl Designs Are Trending

Pearl textures and embellishments have become very popular in the preppy, coquette, and feminine design spaces. Designers are using pearl styles to create eye catching graphics for:

  • T-shirt designs
  • Stickers
  • Digital downloads
  • Invitations
  • Social media graphics

Learning how to create these designs inside Affinity gives you much more control and flexibility than relying on premade graphics.
