How to Turn Canva Elements Into Custom Frames

Creating custom frames in Canva is one of the easiest ways to make your designs stand out. In this tutorial, I’m showing you a simple trick to turn regular Canva elements into usable frames.

Turn Canva Elements into Custom Frames

This is perfect for creating:

• Custom text fill designs
• Unique clipart frames
• Trendy layered graphics
• Sellable Canva templates

In this tutorial, we’ll be using a combination of Canva tools and the FrameSpark app to turn any element into a working frame.

Watch the full tutorial below to follow along step by step.

Step 1: Convert Your Element Into a Frame

We start by selecting a Canva element that we want to turn into a frame.

Inside the video, I show you how to:

• Choose the right type of element
• Open the FrameSpark app in Canva
• Convert the element into a usable frame

This step is what allows you to drop photos, patterns, or textures inside your design.

Step 2: Match the Background to the Element

Next, we prepare the element so we can isolate the outline.

In this step, you’ll learn how to:

• Change the background color to match the element fill
• Make the element blend into the background
• Set up the design for easy background removal

This trick makes it much easier to get a clean outline in the next step.

Step 3: Remove the Background

Now we isolate the outline of the element.

Using Canva’s background remover, I show you how to:

• Remove the background cleanly
• Keep only the outline of the element
• Create a crisp overlay piece

This is what gives your frame that custom layered look.

Step 4: Layer the Outline Over the Frame

Finally, we bring everything together.

In this step, you’ll learn how to:

• Place your outline over the frame
• Align everything perfectly
• Create a polished, custom frame design

This final layered look makes your design feel professional and unique.

Final Thoughts

Once you learn this technique, you can turn almost any Canva element into a custom frame.

Try experimenting with:

• Doodle elements
• Shapes and icons
• Seasonal graphics
• Hand drawn styles

This is a great way to create completely unique Canva templates and digital products without needing advanced tools.
