Canva Background Remover Hack: What to Do When It Removes Too Much

One of the most frustrating things when using the Canva background remover is when it removes parts of your actual design along with the background. If you’ve ever thought: “Wait…I wanted to keep that part!” Don’t worry, there’s actually a super simple fix.

Canva Background Remover Hack

In this tutorial, I’m showing you an easy Canva background remover hack that allows you to restore the parts of your design that were accidentally erased.

This is especially helpful for:

• PNG designs
• Clipart
• Text based graphics
• Hand drawn elements
• Trendy layered designs

Watch the full tutorial below to follow along step by step.

The Problem with Canva Background Remover

Canva’s background remover is incredibly helpful! But sometimes it gets a little too aggressive.

This usually happens when:

• Parts of your design are thin or detailed
• Colors blend together
• Your design has texture or distressed areas
• The edges aren’t clearly defined

As a result, Canva may erase parts of the design you actually wanted to keep.

The Easy Fix: Use the Restore Tool

The good news? You don’t need to start over. Inside Canva’s background remover tool, there’s a feature called restore. In the tutorial, I show you how to:

• Open the background remover editor
• Select the Restore brush
• Paint back in the parts of the design you want to keep
• Clean up the final result

This makes it easy to quickly fix areas that were accidentally removed.

Why This Hack Is So Helpful

Learning how to use the Restore feature can save you:

• Time
• Frustration
• Re-editing your design from scratch

And once you know this trick, you’ll have much more control over your final PNGs and graphics.

Best Designs for This Technique

This trick works especially well for:

• Doodle style graphics
• Distressed designs
• Sticker style PNGs
• Layered text effects
• Clipart with small details

Final Thoughts

Canva’s background remover is a powerful tool but knowing how to manually restore parts of your design makes it even better.

This simple trick can help you create cleaner, more professional looking graphics without losing important details.
