Have you ever finished arranging a design in Canva only to realize you want to use a different clipart element? Normally that means deleting the image, adding a new one, resizing it, rotating it, and trying to line everything back up. Thankfully, there’s a much easier way. I have a time saving Canva crop hack.

In this tutorial, I’m sharing one of my favorite Canva time saving tricks that lets you swap clipart without ruining your layout. This works especially well when you’re using clipart sheets or Canva templates that include multiple graphics on a single page.
Watch the full tutorial below to see exactly how it works.
The Problem
Many Canva templates and clipart sets include several graphics on one page. For example, imagine you have a page with eight different colored stars. You crop the page until only the purple star is visible and spend time getting it perfectly positioned in your design.
Then you decide…”I actually like the pink star better.”
Normally you’d have to:
• Delete the cropped image
• Crop the new star
• Resize it again
• Rotate it again
• Line everything back up
That’s a lot of unnecessary work.
The Easy Canva Crop Hack
Instead of starting over, Canva lets you adjust what’s visible inside the cropped image.
In this tutorial, I show you how to:
• Crop your clipart as usual
• Double click the cropped image
• Drag the artwork inside the crop area
• Instantly reveal a different element from the same clipart sheet
In my example, I simply slide the artwork until the pink star appears instead of the purple one.
The best part? The image stays exactly where it was.
That means:
• No resizing
• No rotating again
• No repositioning your layout
Everything stays perfectly aligned.
Why This Saves So Much Time
This simple crop hack is perfect when you’re working with:
• Canva templates
• Clipart bundles
• PNG sheets with multiple graphics
• Design elements that come in several colors
Instead of rebuilding your design every time you want a different variation, you can simply slide the image until the version you want appears.
Perfect for Canva Templates
I actually demonstrate this technique using one of my Mascot Canva templates.
If you’ve ever purchased one of my templates, or any template that includes multiple graphics on a page, this trick will make customizing your designs much faster.
Final Thoughts
Sometimes the best Canva tips are the simplest ones.
Learning how to adjust the contents of a cropped image instead of replacing it can save you a surprising amount of time, especially when you’re creating multiple designs.
Once you start using this trick, you’ll probably find yourself using it all the time.
