Canva has recently released a new text effect called “outline” and of course, this makes it really easy to create an outline in Canva. By using this new effect along with the “hollow” effect you can create different looking outlines.
Method One
For the first example we’ll be using both the “outline” effect and the “hollow” effect. Pick any font you like and type in your word. I used the Frankfurter Highlight and Frankfurter Normal fonts which are available in Canva Pro. (You can try Canva Pro free for 30 days by clicking this link.)
Once you have your word typed out click the “effects” button and choose “outline”. You’ll need to make sure the text and the outline are the same color. This will create a base layer for you to work from. Next, duplicate your word and change the color. This will be your second layer. Now, duplicate your word one more time and use the “hollow” effect. Pick a color that works nicely with your other 2 colors and play around with the thickness of each effect. That quickly you have your first outline in Canva.
Method Two
Let’s move on to the second method. This one only has 2 layers and you’ll begin just as you did before. Type in your word in whatever font you want. Use the “outline” effect and make sure the outline and the main text are the same color. Bring up the thickness until you get a good chunky look. Now, duplicate your word and change the effect to “hollow”. Bring down the thickness on this one and change the color to something that will be in good contrast with your original color. Put the two together and you have your second outline effect. The video above goes into more detail but as you can see, it’s really easy to create an outline in Canva!
